The Panshet Dam Tragedy...

On July 12, 1961, there was an uproar in Pune, who was running away shouting 'Water has come..water has come ...'Because the Panshet dam was badly damaged.Indian soldiers worked tirelessly to pile up thousands of bags of sand overnight, blocking the dam from bursting into the night.If water had come at night while Punekar was sleeping, there would have been huge loss of life in Pune.But in the end, it happened in the early hours of the morning.More than a thousand people were killed in the incident.
There was water in Pune, there was a commotion, he was trying to save his life.This caused a lot of controversy.Life was turned upside down.The dreams of many were dissolved in the muddy water.This flood broke the grain of a generation.On that day, the news that the Panshet dam near Pune was in danger was published on the front page.A photo of the dam was also printed in the news.
The overall tone of the news was that Pune residents should not panic even if the dam is in danger.There is no threat to Pune city.However, the seriousness of the crisis began to be realized.The Deccan was beginning to flood.Suddenly the water level began to rise.The water was very strong.The feet were not on the ground.Huge mud and fine sand were coming along with the water.The condition of Deccan Gymkhana Chowk was like a battlefield.Joe was in a life-saving mess.
Important riverside roads like Karve Road and Jangli Maharaj Road were once lost under water.The Deccan Gymkhana ground was flooded.We started walking along Ferguson College Road towards Ferguson College.The buildings were crumbling before my eyes.The water came to Goodluck Chowk.The water level was rising.
Hanuman Hill, behind Ferguson College, was overflowing with mountain people.Gradually the water rose to the main gate of Ferguson College.All roads and alleys connecting Jangli Maharaj Road and Ferguson College Road were flooded.
Half of Pune was destroyed!His true, fictional stories continued to circulate for a long time.To rebuild the city of Pune.Govt.A dutiful officer like Barve was appointed.The flood victims who were 'thrown' in Navi Peth, Dattawadi etc. outside Pune at that time are now living in the middle of Pune metropolis, in places worth crores of rupees.Flood of Panshet and after that Shri.No.Pendse wrote the play, while Shakuntala Gogte wrote the true story 'Panshetcha Pralay'.
It is now 54 years since the incident.Pune was flooded due to bursting of Panshet dam.This flood taught many lessons.The biggest lesson is not to get overwhelmed by adversity.Learn to deal with it.Pune learned this lesson perfectly.So the city of Pune stood like a phoenix party.It has not only stood still, but has become a major industrial city in the world today.
