REPUBLIC DAY After being under British rule for more than 2 centuries, India gained Independence in the year 1947 . Approximately 3 years after India's Independence, the Indian constitution was adopted on 26 January which is known as Republic day . Republic day is celebrated on 26th January every year. It is the national festival of India. India became republic on 26th January,1950. It is also important because it is on this day when our constitution came into effect. The constitution is a book of laws needed to run our country. The constitution is a supreme law of India . On Republic day flag hoisting ceremonies and parades by armed forces and children are held in different parts of the country. The grandest and most important of these parades is held at Rajput in New Delhi. On this day , all the workplaces are closed for a day as this day is a national occasion. This day has been declared as a national holiday by the Government of India. People of India celebrate this great day in their own way. This day gives the message of equality and harmony. On 26th January in 1950 our country, India was declared as a Sovereign, Secular , Socialistic and Democratic Republic means people of India has the power to govern the country themselves. It is celebrated by organizing a big event with special parade at Rajpath, New Delhi in the presence of President of India by unfolding the National Flag and singing the National Anthem.
